About the Role
The role is based in a single location Gloucester and involves shift work. The 24x7 Data Centre Technician role undertakes operational activity within the Data Centre.
Undertaking scheduled and ad hoc tasks set out by the 24x7 Operations Manager along with the on-site Site Lead and Operators.
The Data Centre Technician performs a large number of remote hands and first level support tasks including installation of customer equipment, cables and cabling infrastructure.
You must maintain a strong customer focus, obsessing over customer deliverables and demanding the highest standards in operational deliverables.

About you

  • Experienced in customer IT support or Data floor specialist
  • Trouble shooting customer issues
  • Able to deal with emergencies and conflict situations calmly and effectively.
  • Extensive experience in operational efficiencies and operational process creation and reviews.
  • Ability to troubleshoot a wide array of technical issues
  • Understands and can implement best practice: Rack design o Hot/cold aisle o Efficient layout o Rack Cabling
  • Has proficient knowledge of systems and hardware that will aid in the monitoring and evaluation of tasks.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety and compliance.

Responsibilities
This role is responsible for undertaking operational tasks and acts as on-site support for the Data Centre Operations team who are actively engaged in the daily BAU running of our Data Centres.

  • Support the Data Centre Operator with Batch Services o Operating batch processes o Monitoring batch alerts and resolving issues
  • Providing First Level Support and Troubleshooting to clients
  • Undertakes the duties of an Operator or Site Leader (if applicable in your home data centre) in the absence of these roles at the time any of the duties assigned to these roles must be delivered.
  • Supporting Datacom’s outsourcing facilities environment
  • Ensure that the Floor management at Datacom Data Centres is managed and maintained to industry leading standards. Ensure consistent and excellent management of data centre floor assets.
  • Completing all operational tasks
  • To provide Customer Service to data centre clients o Management of Customer facing activities and customer relationships o Installation and/or management of Data Centre infrastructure including power systems, IT and telecommunications equipment, cabling, racks etc.
  • Ensure adherence to (and documentation of) existing and new standards relating to customer change
  • Ensure all operational tasks assigned to you are completed and the status updated in Task Scheduler.
  • Assist Data Centre Operations in times of load and leave / sickness.
  • Major Incident
  • The care and presentation of our data centres.
  • Ensuring all Datacom security objectives are strictly adhered to.
  • Ensuring any deliverables in the areas of health amp; safety applicable to the role are met.
  • Delivering services that are fully consistent with our standards and processes (including by all your reports if applicable)
  • Being part of a culture of continuous improvement, seeking out efficiencies, service improvements, and new ways of working
