About The Role - Te Mahi

We are looking for an experienced Hotel General Manager Kaiwhakahaere Matua to oversee the daily operations and provide strategic direction for our flagship South Island hotel under the Sudima Hotel brand at Christchurch Airport.

In this senior leadership role, you will drive the activities of an extensive and diverse workforce to ensure the smooth and profitable running of the business. It is important for the General Manager to be involved in all aspects of the hotel operations, therefore you will be just as responsible for managing customer and employee experiences as strategising and preparing reports and business plans. You will be a key person of reference for employees, clients as well as external vendors and have an active profile within the local community. The General Manager will be an excellent communicator, able to conduct a well-functioning high performing team. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be a team player and an effective leader, able to set examples and foster a climate of care and inclusion. The goal is to enhance guest loyalty, expand our clientele and maintain our reputation as an employer of choice by strengthening our hotel and employer brand’s reputation.

Responsibilities | Nga haepapa
  • Plan activities and allocate responsibilities to achieve the most efficient operating model
  • Manage budgets/expenses, analyse and interpret financial information and monitor sales and profits
  • Communicate and maintain a presence with guests amp; customers, when appropriate welcome them in the facilities, address complaints, find solutions to problems, offer information etc.
  • Address maintenance issues, shortages in staff and equipment, oversee renovations etc.
  • Collaborate with external parties such as suppliers, agencies, consultants etc.
  • Inspect facilities regularly and enforce strict compliance with health and safety and brand standards
  • Supervise work at all levels and set clear objectives

Requirements

About you | Ko koe tenei

  • Proven experience as Hotel General Manager in New Zealand, Australia or another international market.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as Hotel Manager/ General Manager within a 4-star hotel or above, with large volume conference space and 180+ guest rooms.
  • Understanding of hotel management best practices and trends.
  • Good knowledge of relevant NZ Legislation such as The Sale amp; Supply of Liquor Act, Food Act, NZ Employment Law, Privacy Act 2020 amp; HSWA 2015
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; knowledge of hotel management (PMS) and review software an advantage
  • Excellent understanding of customer trends and guest experience including service recovery
  • Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and solution focused business mindset
  • Reliable with an ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
  • Visionary leader with outstanding coaching and mentoring skills with great attention to detail
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus
  • Study in Business Administration, Hotel/Hospitali
