Job Description

The Opportunity:

Join a highly capable team of 3 Waters engineers working alongside structural, civil, geotechnical, building services and environmental disciplines delivering innovative and sustainable design solutions; and enjoy an empowered relationship-based work culture in what is one of the few remaining large NZ owned private consultancies.

We are looking for candidates with a tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in the water sector delivering projects for local authorities and public sector clients working in a consultancy environment. The role is accountable for smooth running of major / complex projects, providing specialised technical service at an expert level, developing solutions to highly complex problems requiring a complete understanding of practices, techniques, concepts and theoretical principles. The role requires establishing and maintaining client relationships, is accountable for business development, co-ordinates inputs from different groups, reporting and monitoring project progress. The role will also be required to provide inputs to company’s engineering policy, procedures and standards.

The ideal candidates will have experience in major/complex projects involving hydraulic modelling, the design of water, wastewater and stormwater pipe networks, pump stations, and treatment. Experience in using 12D or Civil 3D and hydraulic design software is desirable.

The Role:

The role of Senior Infrastructure Engineer would encompass the following:

  • Carry out and assist with investigations, design, contract documentation and specifications, schedule, project estimates and construction monitoring for infrastructure engineering projects and the infrastructure components of multi-disciplined projects.
  • Ensure all deliverables are of appropriate quality and are delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Co-ordinate infrastructure engineering deliverables with other disciplines.
  • Assist in financial management of projects as required including budget review and invoicing.
  • Identify, agree and undertake training as required to maintain skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure all administration tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Meet all health and safety requirements.
  • Undertake activities in accordance with the Company’s Knowledge Base.
  • Ensure an excellent service delivery to clients to promote repeat and competitive work.
  • Undertake all activities in accordance with the Company’s core values of integrity trust, excellence and sustainability.
  • Assist the Infrastructure Manager, Principals, and other seniors, to: Correctly scope out projects, with appropriate inputs, outputs and verification, Ensure that projects are undertaken in a timely and cost-effective manner and to acceptable professional standards.
  • Ensure that all work undertaken is in accordance with appropriate professional and technical standards and practices and meets the requirements of the Company.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships and profile with clients and engineering/scientific community.
  • Liaise closely with other disciplines involved with projects, and work cooperatively to achieve best overall solutions.
  • Undertake such reporting as is required.
    Development of team capabilities in 3 Waters design and project delivery including:
    Proactively training and mentoring young professionals to help them grow to their full potential, to maximise their enjoyment and ensure successful project outcomes.
    Maintaining knowledge of relevant engineering procedures, engineering design with particular reference to current codes and specifications, software and design tools.
    Maintain knowledge of appropriate technical standards, legislation, codes of practice and New Zealand standards.

Requirements

Qualification, Skills amp; Personal Attributes Required:

  • A degree based professional qualification in civil or environmental engineering.
  • A sound knowledge of hydraulic and hydrological principles.
  • Excellent Relationship building skills

  • Leadership Skills
  • Chartered or in (near) application stage for Chartership with Engineering NZ or equivalent.
