The Role

The Group Data Warehouse Manager is a senior position with the Group Data amp; Analytics team within Datacom Group. Focused on management and delivery information to the business using data as an asset, the role is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and stability of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and associated Data platforms. The role includes enhancing our data platform architecture. The role reports into the Chief Data Officer.


Role Responsibilities
  • Data Management amp; Governance implement and support data management policy and standards for how data is used, moved, collected, consolidated, interpreted and secured within Datacom
  • Implement up to date data management policies for risk management purposes
  • Enforce supply of data contracts and policies for the secure and reliable movement of data between applications both within Datacom and to/from external data suppliers and consumers.
  • Extend the design and architecture of the group enterprise data warehouse (EDW) which collects, consolidates and correlates relevant data from our applications. This will require working closely with the CDO on extending and enhancing existing data transformation and ETL processes and tools, including technologies in use such as Azure ADF, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, DataBricks, Power BI Datasets and the Microsoft modern data warehouse platform.
  • Maintain and support the enterprise data warehouse (EDW) so that it
    • provides a single source of truth
    • provide data structures appropriate to support flexible BI and analytics
    • provide cost effective data preservation strategies
    • provide summarised data to other systems as required
  • provide assistance and support to all Datacom users with respect to data, including internal users who are using and manipulating data, and internal systems ETL and data migration
  • Data Quality enhance and develop existing data quality policies. Work with the business stakeholders and data stewards to cleanse and govern data where practical and possible
  • Master Data work with the CDO to manage and enhance the centralised reference data management service for managing gold customer, product and service records for Datacom
  • Data Architecture manage and enhance an appropriate data and information architecture for Datacom sing use cost effective and modern architecture for the management of data to provide data services. This will require the enhancement or refactoring of the existing repository of data sets, data flows, data definitions, and data taxonomy reflecting an enterprise data model for the purposes of classification and knowledge management
  • Support the group wide data strategy to greatly enhance Datacom’s data management framework, including implementing comprehensive a master data management framework, a data quality and security framework, and to ensure accessibility and completeness of data across the group.
  • Increasing business confidence in the accuracy, veracity, reliability and value of data to help guide business decision making and exploit commercial opportunities with our data.
  • Strong communication skills working in a team environment. Will be interacting with business, corporate users and stakeholders throughout the enterprise across New Zealand and Australasia.
  • Requires strong technical skills using the technologies in use (Microsoft Data Platform, which includes SQL, Azure ADF / DataBricks / Data Lake, Synapse / PBI Datasets).
  • Demonstrable experience designing, implementing and managing complex data management environments in a corporate context
  • Appropriate tertiary education in Business Information Systems and Computer Science, as well as strong background and knowledge with data transformation and data management concepts.
  • 10 years or more experience in the field.
