Job Description

Location: 100% Remote home working, Anywhere in New Zealand (Must be permanently living amp; have the right to work in New Zealand with no restrictions, to apply for this role)

Pay Rate: $25 NZD per hour

Contract: 6 months (Highly likely to be extended)

Hours: 15 hours per week (fully flexible)

As a New Zealand Content Writer working on resources suitable for the New Zealand Curriculum, you will have experience teaching in New Zealand across the primary age range and have strengths across the New Zealand Curriculum.

You will also have strong knowledge of tikanga and te ao Maori, with a willingness to carefully guide and support others when writing culturally responsive and appropriate resources for New Zealand classrooms.

This is a work from home, flexible position and working hours can be agreed upon between you and your line manager to fit around your current commitments. Meetings, such as weekly team meetings, can be conducted online via Google Meet.

Ongoing projects/how you’ll spend your day:

  • undergoing training for the first few weeks to understand all aspects of your new role;
  • providing advice to other New Zealand team members regarding tikanga and te ao Maori, and ensuring relevant resources accurately reflect this;
  • working with other Twinkl writers on the Classic and Te Reo teams;
  • ideating and writing raw teaching content for English-medium schools, before it moves through the production process, including events and topics relevant to the Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum;
  • responding to and implementing feedback from our Content Editors;
  • attending two evening meetings/short stand-ups a week to update the team on your progress, raise issues and ask for support from your teammates;
  • attending ad-hoc meetings with your trainer, buddy and line manager as needed;
  • engaging with your teammates and contributing to the fun, supportive culture of our NZ and UK based team.

To succeed in the role, you will:

  • possess strong, up-to-date knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and best teaching practices;
  • support other writers in the team in creating culturally responsive and appropriate content for New Zealand classrooms;
  • support other members of the NZ team in understanding tikanga and te ao Maori, share knowledge and be willing to answer questions that arise;
  • have excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar skills;
  • thrive working in a change-focused and dynamic environment with a close-knit team;
  • be focused on collaboration, using feedback to make our resources the best they can be;
  • be computer literate, with experience using MS Office (particularly Word and PowerPoint) and/or the Google Suite (particularly Docs and Slides);
  • be good fun to be with and have the ability to communicate well with others,

In this role, you will learn:

  • how to write high-quality educational content for NZ classrooms;
  • how to work utilising Agile Methodology;
  • how to create new teacher content for our New Zealand Classic team, from the ideation stage to publication on the site;
  • remote collaboration, working closely with team members across this market;
  • how to develop greater commercial awareness so we can understand the needs of those we want to help.

You’ll work with:

  • our other New Zealand teachers working as Content Writers and Editors on the Classic product, as well as our te reo Maori team;
  • a fellow team member who will provide support as your ‘buddy’ for your first couple of months;
  • our team of UK-based Designers and Illustrators;
  • your Team Leader, Shelley;
  • the Classic Product Owner, Kelsey and New Zealand Country Manager, Imogen

Requirements

We're interested in anyone who meets one, or a combination of the following:

  • Bachelor of Education (Teaching), or
  • Bachelor of Teaching (Primary), or
  • Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Primary) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or
  • Diploma of Teaching
