Job Description


The Cloudy Bay Shed is located just 5 minutes from Cromwell. A Chef opportunity has arisen as we grow our business to create a menu in line with our luxury brand, complementing our wines and showcasing the best of the local produce. We’re looking for a chef who aligns with our values and wants to learn and grow with us and to represent the brand from a culinary perspective.

You will have the opportunity to create your own menu, showcasing the beauty of food and wine, using seasonal and local products which lends perfectly to the Cloudy Bay wine experience. Bring your food experience and top-standard customer service ability to create authentic gastronomic experiences for our guests.

In this new role we’re seeking an enthusiastic and experienced chef with passion and energy to contribute to the reputation of Cloudy Bay and to enhance the overall customer experience. We are open five days a week for lunch and 7 days for tastings and light bites. There are some special dinner events when required, so successful applicants will need to be available to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing all kitchen operations and workload, including preparation and service and food control plan;
  • Maintaining a consistently high-quality food service and presentation;
  • Controlling and directing the food preparation process, including shucking shellfish;
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to all visitors of The Cloudy Bay Shed;
  • Creating menu items, recipes and developing dishes ensuring variety and quality;
  • Determining food inventory needs, stocking and ordering;
  • Monitoring and controlling on food costs and wastage;
  • Ultimately responsible for ensuring the kitchen meets all regulations including sanitary and food safety guidelines;
  • Ensuring that all kitchen facilities are maintained in a clean and tidy state;
  • Health and safety and food hygiene practices;
  • Reporting and regularly communicating with the Customer Experience Manager regarding daily operations, special events and improvement suggestions;
  • Attending morning and afternoon briefings with team;
  • Working closely with the team on all levels;

Requirements

To succeed in this position, you will have:

  • Significant experience as a Chef with excellent food making techniques and practices;
  • An enthusiastic and team-oriented mindset;
  • Experience in managing a kitchen hand and a full kitchen in total independency;
  • Experience in working as a Chef in busy and pressured environments with high-quality standards;
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and discover a new gastronomic environment;
  • A high standard of personal presentation with a friendly and genuine attitude;
  • High energy and a positive, pro-active approach with an attention to detail;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills aligned with Cloudy Bay brand's standard;
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills;
  • Adaptable and flexible around the working hours when required;
  • Physical aptitudes: standing on feet all day, handling and shucking seafood;


The role is needed from October 2021 for a 1 year fixed-term.
