Description

The Practice Manager role in Datacom is a senior position leading a specialised area within our high-performing Digital Engineering business in Wellington. With responsibility spanning the entire process from capability development to identifying business value and growing a highly utilised team, this is a challenging role demanding the highest level of people, technical and business skill.

As the Digital Engineering Practice Manager for Microsoft Build in Wellington, we are looking for an accomplished leader who can grow our Practice for Azure and Microsoft-based software solutions. You will utilise your experience in the software and services industry to provide insight and solutions to our large set of customers across Wellington.

There is variety and substantial opportunity for growth with five main areas of focus in the role. These include:

Sales - While our sales and customer teams help bring in work, you will define and shape customers’ needs into deliverable outcomes. A good understanding of business needs and technologies are essential to the success in this role. You will have excellent relationship building and management skills as you will engage directly with customers to ensure we are delivering and to also create further opportunities. You will also manage the sales pipeline effectively.

People Management and Leadership - looking after all elements of managing people, providing strong leadership, mentoring and retention of staff, along with hiring of new team members.

Business Insight - Business practices within Datacom evolve organically and your ability to manage change and be flexible to move with different customer requirements and needs is essential. You will again use your relationships and strong engagement with your customers to grow them and understand their unique business needs. You will also need to demonstrate leadership within your technical area and use this to drive business development and growth.

Financial Management You will be numerically strong and comfortable interpreting the story behind the monthly figures. A high aptitude for analysis is important as you will understand and use this information to see how your team are utilised, what work is coming in and where they need to focus their efforts e.g., resourcing and sales pipeline.

Project Delivery - You will have some ability in technical consulting and engaging with technical staff on the customer side. A background in project delivery is essential to having a good understanding of the project lifecycle from initiation to close. A good understanding of different development methods is also essential and knowing how to apply these in the delivery of outcomes.

Some of your day-to-day duties would include:

  • Developing amp; championing new and existing services and products within your practice scope
  • Developing collateral to support these services and products
  • Collating case studies on previous projects
  • Developing relationships with our technology partners
  • Building your practices internal brand within Datacom
  • Resource planning, including hiring, developing team skills and assigning work
  • Presales relating to your practice

Your leadership skills and experience will be required for:

  • Providing people leadership to team members and represent the project to stakeholders
  • Providing technical leadership to team members including setting best practices, standards, creating documentation and performing reviews
  • Providing solution designs, estimates and timelines
  • Representing your team to stakeholders and take ownership for outcomes
