How does this role fit in?
Your role delivers impact by leading a team of software engineers, working alongside them and actively contributing to a workstream. You’ll be nurturing the development process and guiding the engineers to achieve the highest level of impact capable.
A significant requirement in this role is supporting and celebrating the development and growth of our engineering team and Imagr’s culture - you’re motivated by helping your team to be their best, to achieve, and to see value manifest through Imagr’s ground-breaking solution. You’ll work closely with product, design and wider stakeholders to ensure our products delight the senses of our Retailers and end-users.
In this role, your day and responsibilities may look like any of the following:
- As a contributing leader, you will develop, test, debug and support code with the experience to contribute to the architecture of fascinating projects
- You are accountable for the engagement and delivery of your team while being aligned to Imagr’s product roadmap You’ll be highly collaborative with product, design, delivery and operations to drive roadmap priorities and work with dependencies across the company
- You actively support and mentor the engineers on your team, guiding them through their careers and coaching them through hard problems, both technical and non-technical
- You’ll drive effective development processes and frameworks for your team. You’re familiar with agile processes, and have an opinion about how to evolve them
- You ensure that the products you deploy are sustained in production, and supported by the team
- You contribute to engineering-wide initiatives and enjoy keeping up with innovation in the industry
From a people experience perspective, the leadership qualities we look for is the intention to embody our values within your daily practices and interactions across the business. You'll be eager to be an extension of our People Experience team by supporting any administration, reporting, coaching and mentoring that comes with being an effective people leader. You'll ideally be an active member of New Zealand's tech community by being an advocate for Imagr both internally and externally, with the desire to support various recruitment initiatives.

The ideal experience, education, attributes and skills:
- A track record of leading productive engineering teams with at least 2-3 years of experience directly managing a team of 3+ engineers
- The ability to lead by example, by setting the right context, and by helping teammates do their best work
- Experience with applied agile process
- Sufficient exposure to cloud technologies to meaningfully contribute to the overall architecture of our solution
- Strong experience with Python, Go, Google technologies, micro services and a focus on full-stack or front-end development
- You have a desire to solve highly complex technical problems
- You’re humble, motivated, curious and receptive to the ideas of your team
- You're a master of your craft, with relevant education to support your professional career
Nice to have:
