We are a diverse and high performing Commercial Finance team that partners with the Datacom business to deliver financial strategy guidance, modelling and solutions to all parts of Datacom.
Group Finance is based in Auckland, with the Finance and Strategy functions spread across the ANZ region.
About the Role
The Group Strategy and Commercial Finance Lead role is a pivotal position that supports both the Head of Corporate Strategy and the Head of Business Performance by providing high quality and insightful analysis and modelling to help inform key strategic decisions across of the organisation. The majority of your time will be focused on providing detailed strategic modelling and support to the SaaS businesses and any ad hoc strategically important initiatives throughout the organisation.
Based in either Auckland or Wellington, this is a Fixed Term Contract reporting to the Head of Corporate Strategy and working closely with the Head of Business Performance and the Senior Commercial Finance Partner (Datacom Products).
What you’ll do
This is essentially a hybrid role with two key focus areas Group Strategy and Commercial Finance
The Group Strategy aspect of the role will see you responsible for the following
- Support the Head of Corporate Strategy on driving the long term planning process.
- Help prepare and facilitate strategy sessions with each business division and Group Leadership Team with particular focus on our Datacom Products division.
- Conduct highly strategic modelling to explore new opportunities and to stress test business trajectories to help inform the decision making with management and the Board.
- Support the business in assessing strategic mergers or acquisition to help inform decision making. Be prepared to model different scenarios to assess risks and opportunities.
- Get involved in strategically important adhoc analysis on request and as required.
- Review and digest external benchmarking reports and articulate market trend
The Commercial Finance component will see you accountable for
- Supporting the Head of Business Performance and Senior Commercial Finance Partner in supporting the Datacom Product division on strategically important analysis.
- Navigating our financial and operational systems to extract meaningful insights for business consumptions (e.g. Salesforece, OpenAir, Oracle Netsuite, Power BI).
- Assisting with the forecasting and planning process, liaising with finance and business leaders as required.
- Supporting new business, and general business development activity, through providing modelling and general financial/commercial support for business cases and bids.
- Assisting with special projects of improved business performance e.g. customer profitability.
- Performing ad hoc requests to support the business in making better and informed decisions.
- Identifying the linkages between inputs, activities, intangibles, outputs, and outcomes.
- Understanding what our non-financial success factors and intangibles are, and helping to establish these as competitive points of difference.

What You’ll Bring
In conjunction with the above, to be successful in this role you will ideally possess the following:
- 3+ years spent in a similar, strategically focused, senior finance role in addition to your previous experience in commercial finance based roles.
- Exceptional financial modelling capability and experience, ideally within a large and complex organisation
- Relevant tertiary qualifications e.g. CA, CPA, Commercial Finance (MBA would be highly regarded)
