Job Description

As Engineering Assistant in our Supply Chain team, you will be instrumental in maintaining and improving the equipment in our two Palmerston North distributions centres. This is a hugely varied role where you will need to get stuck in and become the ‘go to’ person very quickly!
What you’re responsible for· Carry out preventative maintenance checks and minor repairs (as training and experience permits) on warehouse racking, compactors, doors, dock levellers, bollards, flooring, refrigeration, orbital wrappers, MHE and other Distribution Centre equipment · Perform minor equipment and building repairs (plumbing, carpentry and painting)· Install and maintain signage; barriers; bollards and fencing· Repair lockers, cabinets, shelving, racking and other office and warehouse fit out items· Support the Property and Facilities teams for Building Warrant of Fitness issues and other compliance requirements · Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce cost and reduce safety risks · Coordinate with the operations teams to ensure planned work areas are agreed and effectively communicated· Ensure all jobs undertaken have appropriate safety documentation and effective controls in place i.e. Job Safety Analysis (JSA) or Permit to Work (PTW) as required
What skills and experience you need· Trade, Asset Management and / or Facility Maintenance experience preferred· Familiarity with Manual Handling Equipment (MHE) and MHE battery types · Basic computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite and MEX (experience preferred)· Vehicle licences: Car, Forklift, and Elevated Work Platforms preferred· Maintain well organised systems; follow logical approaches to complete work on time and in full· Ability to reorganise priorities to meet urgent deadlines· Negotiate skilfully in difficult situations, continue to talk, and seek compromise in cases of disagreement· Realistic estimates of the time and resources to undertake a process· Effectively shifts priorities, multi-tasks and consistently meets deadlines· Due to the 24-hour nature of FSNI operations some flexibility in working hours will be required from time to time
