Our specialist IT Ops Team works with a variety of customers to manage their systems to ensure maximum performance and cost-effectiveness. We are now looking for a Cloud and Systems Engineer to join our long-standing tight knit team of engineers.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cloud and Systems Engineer to become a part of our dynamic team. Your main responsibilities will include designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security. This is a crucial role that requires expertise in the field of cloud engineering and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.

Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture and Design - Assist with the design and architecture of our cloud infrastructure, considering scalability, reliability, and performance. Collaborate with customers and development teams to understand requirements.

Implementation and Deployment - Manage the deployment and configuration of applications, databases, servers and services on cloud platforms.

Security and Compliance - Implement and enforce security best practices for cloud environments. Manage and mitigate security vulnerabilities and incidents.

Performance Optimisation - Monitor and optimise the performance of cloud infrastructure to ensure efficient resource utilisation.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) - Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts to automate and streamline the provisioning, maintenance and management of a subset of our cloud resources.

Administration and Knowledge Sharing - Administer and monitor cloud platforms, Windows Servers and SQL Server instances and troubleshoot incidents. Collaborate with customers and development teams to provide support and share knowledge.

Cost Management - Monitor and optimise cloud costs to ensure efficiency and budget adherence.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer or similar role, with a focus on cloud architecture and infrastructure.
  • Extensive experience with AWS, including:
  • Predominantly IaaS (EC2), some PaaS (Beanstalk, RDS and Fargate) and many supporting services (S3, SNS, CloudWatch, Config, ELBs, DRS, etc.).
  • Understanding of and experience with the five pillars of a well-architected framework.
  • Basic proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and automation tools.
  • Some knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
  • Solid understanding of networking principles and security best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a variety of customers.
  • Nice to have:
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with cloud services such as Google Workspace, Office 365 and Cloudflare.
  • Some experience with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g., Fargate, ECS, Docker).
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and basic DBA skills.
  • Experience with firewall management, in particular Fortinet solutions.
  • AWS certifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
